Javier Targhetta

Javier Targhetta. President

Javier Targhetta graduated as a Mining Engineer – MSc at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and later awarded a BA degree by IESE (University of Navarra). After complementing his studies with practical work in Germany and England, he began his professional career in the field of metallurgical R&D, joining the AIPSA project, sponsored by the Explosivos Rio Tinto and the Tharsis Sulphur & Copper Groups.

In 1973 he joined the engineering consultancy firm Sereland where he stayed for eight years holding various senior positions, the last one as VP Industrial Division. After four years with the coal trading and shipping/stevedoring company Ruiz de Velasco, in 1985 was appointed Chairman & CEO of Elcano, at the time the leading Spanish shipping company. Between 1988 and 1990 he simultaneously ran the containerized shipping company Trasatlantica – Spanish Line, also as Chairman & CEO. In 1990, he was appointed CEO of Atlantic Copper. In 1993 Freeport‐McMoRan (Phoenix, USA) acquired 100% of Atlantic Copper and Javier Targhetta was confirmed in the position which he holds today. As from July 2005 he also holds the responsibility of Freeport‐McMoRan worldwide copper concentrate sales as Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales.

Among other responsibilities, Javier Targhetta currently is Vice President Commissioner of PT Smelting (Indonesia), Vice Chairman of Fortia, one of Spain’s largest electric power distributors and also is Professor Ad Honorem at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Between 2004 and 2014 he was Associate Professor at this same University. Until June 2008, Javier was Chairman of the Spanish Large Energy Consumers Association – AEGE and from 2007 through November
2011 was Chairman of Eurometaux (European Association of Non‐Ferrous Metals Producers).

Between 2008 and 2010 he was Chairman of the European Copper Institute – ECI. Javier has previously served at the Board of Directors of a number of companies such as Unión Asturiana Estibadora, The Britannia Steamship Protection & Indemnity Club Ltd, Fertiberia, Duro‐Felguera, Compañía General de Carbones and Glencore’s Asturiana de Zinc among others. He was recently appointed Chairman of Primigea, the Confederation of Spanish Mineral Resources
Industries.

Javier Targhetta is fluent in written and spoken English, German, French and Italian, in addition to Spanish, his mother tongue. He is married and has two daughters.


 
Macarena Gutiérrez Martínez.

Macarena Gutiérrez. SVP, Chief Financial Officer & Chief Administrator Officer

She graduated with a Degree in Business Administration Sciences, major in auditing in 1992, from IEE (Institución Empresarial Europea) integrated in Villanueva University. In 2001, she completed a Program for Management Development (PMD) and, in 2016, the ‘Women on Boards’ course, both at the IESE Business School (Navarre University).

She began her professional career at Arthur Andersen (Deloitte) in 1993, in the Audit Department. In 1997, she joined Atlantic Copper as Financial Control Manager. In 2001, she was appointed Director of Planning and Control. In 2005, she was appointed Senior Vice-President, Chief Financial Officer and member of the Senior Management Committee. Since October 2008, she has also been responsible for Corporate Communications, and in 2010, she became the company’s IT systems head. As of June 2022, she was appointed, also, Senior Vice-President, Chief Administrator Officer, incorporating into her functions, in addition to the currents (Financial, IT Systems and Corporate Communication), Organization and HR, Internal Auditing and Corporate Social Responsibilities and the Legal Affairs. Likewise, she is also part of the Board of Trustees of the Atlantic Copper Foundation since its launch in 2009 and has been appointed Vice President in 2021.


 

Carlos Ortiz. Senior Vice President, Metallurgy

He graduated from Seville University in 1983 with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and qualified as a Scientific Applications Programmer at the Seville University Calculation Centre in 1984. He received a Master’s degree in Production, Technology and Operations from the Catholic Institute of Business Administration and Management (ICADE) in 1994, and an MBA from the San Telmo International Institute in 2002. He has also completed the Focused Programs, obtaining an IESE Executive Education Certificate from the IESE Business School (Navarre University).

He began his professional career as an Applications Programmer for NIXDORF in 1984. Following a training period at LUBRIZOL Spain, he joined Atlantic Copper in 1986 in the Planning and Study Department, and pursued his professional career in numerous operations-related divisions, specializing in the refinery area. In 2004, he was appointed Production Manager and, in 2019, Senior Vice President of Metallurgy.

He was president of the Association of Basic Chemical and Energy Industries of Huelva from 2018 to 2021 as well as Vice President of the Huelva Business Federation. He is currently an executive member of the Huelva Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation.


José Jiménez Carracedo.

José Jiménez. Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales

He graduated from CEU San Pablo University (affiliated to the Complutense University of Madrid) in 1985 with a B.S. degree in Economics and Business Sciences and received a Master’s degree in Commercial Management and Marketing from the Business Institute of Madrid in 1990.

He started out at Atlantic Copper in 1987 as Manager of Sales and Hedging. In 1996, he was appointed Manager of the International Marketing Division and, in 2004, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales. In 2005, he also assumed the responsibilities of Marketing Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PT-FI) (a Freeport-McMoRan affiliate); in 2007, he was appointed Senior Director of Marketing & Sales of Freeport-McMoRan and, in 2013, Vice-President of Marketing & Sales of Freeport-McMoRan Sales Company Inc.


Conchita García Carvajal.

Conchita García. Senior Vice President, Sulphuric Acid Business

She graduated from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1990 with a B.S. degree in Economics and Business Sciences. In 2002, she also completed a Program for Management Development (PMD) and, in 2013, she graduated in Senior Management Program (SMP) both at the IESE Business School (Navarre University). In 2019, she qualified in Good Corporate Governance for Directors at the Institute of Directors and Administrators.

She began her professional career at Deloitte in 1990, in the Audit Department. In 1997, she joined Atlantic Copper as Chief Accountant. In 2003, she was appointed Director of Studies and Institutional Relations. Since 2008, she is Senior Vice President of Sulphuric Acid Business.

 

Helio Mariscal Álvaro.

Heliodoro Mariscal. Senior Vice President, Internal Auditing and CSR

He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1974 with a B.Eng degree in Mining Engineering and received a Master’s Degree in Business Management Techniques in 1988 (Spanish Consultants, Caixa Galicia).

He began his professional career at Fraser Telos Management, as an Organization and Project Engineer. In 1984, he joined Atlantic Copper as Director of Operations for CAVISA, a group affiliate. In 1986, he took over the general management of the affiliate until 1993, when he was appointed Deputy Manager of the Huelva Expansion Project (HEP). He was subsequently made responsible for the Internal Audit Department and, in 2004, was appointed Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Internal Auditing. He is currently Senior Vice President of Internal Auditing and Corporate Social Responsibility.

In 2018, he was appointed Chairman of the Atlantic Copper Foundation.


Natalia Pérez Hormaeche.

Natalia Pérez. Attorney. Director of Legal Affairs. Compliance Officer and DPO

She graduated from Granada University in 1993 with a B.A. degree in Law, and completed a Master’s Degree in Legal Counseling at the Business Institute of Madrid (1994-1995). Among others, she has completed a course on the Criminal Liability of Legal Persons and Entities and Legal Compliance at the Business Institute (Law School Executive Education, 2011), a course on the New European Data Protection Regulations: Impact and Adaptation (CUNEF, 2017), as well as a Compliance Officer Program (Navarre University-Deloitte Legal, 2018).

Her professional career began at the Canalejas Law Firm in 1993, followed by positions in the legal departments of Alcampo, S.A. (1995-1996) and of Meta4 Spain, S.A. (1996-2004). She joined Atlantic Copper in 2004 as Coordinator of Legal Affairs and Vice-Secretary of the Board of Directors until 2007, when she was appointed Director of Legal Affairs and Non-Board Member Secretary of the Board of Directors. She was also appointed Compliance Officer in 2012 and the company’s Data Protection Officer in 2018.


Carlos Rich

Carlos Rich. Strategy Officer and Director International Division

Carlos graduated from the Royal School of Mines (RSM), Imperial College, London, in 1981, with a Bsc degree in Mine Engineering. In 2014, he graduated in Senior Management Program (SME) at the IESE Business School (Navarre University).

He began his professional career as a Mining Engineer at the Rössing Uranium mine in Namibia. In 1984, he joined Atlantic Copper in the mining division, assuming the management and supervision of its mining operations in 1993. In 1996, he joined the Metallurgy Division, leading diverse Continuous Improvement projects. In 2005, he was appointed Director of the International Division and Director Concentrate Marketing & Sales of Freeport-McMoRan Inc. In 2007, he also took charge of the Atlantic Copper Strategy Office.

Since 2018, he serves as treasurer to the executive board of the EU funded KIC EIT Raw Materials.

 
 

Esther Alonso. Senior Vice President of Energy Transition and Sustainability

She graduated from the School of Mining, Energy and Materials Engineering of Oviedo in 1986 with a BS degree in Mining Engineering and completed a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University Institute of Business (IUDE) in 1991. In 1993, she received a degree in Environmental Engineering from the EOI Business School. She also holds a BA degree in Journalism from the University of the Basque Country (2002).

Prior to joining Atlantic Copper, Esther Alonso held the position of Director of Energy, Climate Change and Environment at ArcelorMittal in Spain. She began her career in 1987 as a systems engineer in the Computer Management area of Empresa Nacional de Siderurgia (Ensidesa), where, starting in 1991, she became the head of the Waste Management Department, part of the company’s Environmental Division. In 1994 she became the Manager of Environmental Engineering at Corporación de Siderurgia Integral (CSI) and, in 1998, she took the position of Energy Strategies Manager at the Aceralia Group, which became ArcelorMittal in 2001. In the new company she held the Purchasing and Investments Manager position starting in 2001, until being named Director of Energy, Climate Change and Environment in 2010.
