Javier Targhetta

Javier Targhetta, President

Graduated as a Mining Engineer at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1971 and was later awarded an MBA by the IESE (University of Navarra, 1987). After complementing his studies with practical work in Germany and England, he began his professional career in the field of metallurgical research, joining the AIPSA project, sponsored by the Explosivos Rio Tinto and the Tharsis Copper & Sulphur Groups.

After various senior positions in the fields of international engineering, coal trading and shipping/stevedoring, in 1985 he was appointed Chairman and CEO of Elcano, the leading Spanish shipping company. In December 1990, he joined Atlantic Copper as CEO. In 1993 Freeport‐McMoRan, Phoenix, USA) acquired 100% of Atlantic Copper and Javier Targhetta was confirmed in the position which he holds today. As from July 2005 he also holds the responsibility of Freeport‐McMoRan’s worldwide copper ores sales as Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales.

Among other responsibilities, Javier Targhetta currently is Vice President Commissioner of P.T. Smelting (Indonesia) and Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Until June 2008, Javier was Chairman of the Spanish Large Energy Consumers Association and from 2007 through November 2011 he was Chairman of Eurometaux (European Association of Non‐Ferrous Metals Producers). He is Vice Chairman of Fortia, one of Spain’s largest electric power distributors and member of the Board of Directors of MAXAM, one of the world’s leading civil explosives producers and member of the High Council of Spain’s Engineering Institute.

Javier Targhetta is fluent in English, German, French and Italian, in addition to Spanish, his mother tongue. Javier is married and has two daughters.


Miguel Palacios

Miguel Palacios, Senior Vice President Metallurgy

Graduate in Chemical Sciences from the University of Seville. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Seville Higher School of Industrial Engineers and the School of Industrial Organisation (EOI) (1988) as well as the Higher Business Management Program (PADE) certificate from the IESE Business School of the University of Navarra (2013).

His career with the company began in 1984, when he started at Atlantic Copper as a Metallurgist. In 1987 he took over the post of Chief Furnace Manager and in 1996 became Chief Smelting Manager. In 1998 he was promoted to Head of Project Development Group and in 2005 he was appointed Director of Technology. Since 2010 he has held the office of Senior Vice President Metallurgy.


José Jiménez Carracedo.

José Jiménez, Senior Vice President Marketing and Sales

Graduate in Economics and Business Sciences from SAN PABLO CEU (Complutense University of Madrid), he also holds a Master’s Degree in Marketing and Business Management from the Business Institute of Madrid.

He began at Atlantic Copper in 1987 as Head of Sales and Coverage. In 1996 he was appointed Director of the International Division and in 2004 he took over as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales. In 2005, he also assumed responsibilities as Marketing Director (PT-Freeport Indonesia), and in 2007 became Senior Director Marketing & Sales (Freeport-McMoRan). In 2013 he was appointed Vice President Marketing & Sales (Freeport-McMoRan Sales Company.


Conchita García Carvajal.

Conchita García, Senior Vice President Sulphuric Acid Business

Graduate in Economics and Business Sciences at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She also holds both the PDD (Management Development Programme) and PADE (Higher Business Management Programme) certificates from the International Graduate School of Management of the University of Navarra (2002 and 2013, respectively).

In September 1997 she joined Atlantic Copper as Accounts Manager. In 2003 she was appointed Director of Institutional Relations and Studies – Deputy to the President. Since 2008 she has held the office of Senior Vice President Sulphuric Acid Business.


Macarena Gutiérrez Martínez.

Macarena Gutiérrez, Senior Vice President Economic and Financial Affairs

Graduate in Economics and Business Sciences from the Madrid European Business Institute. She also took a PDD (Management Development Programme) at the International Graduate School of Management of the University of Navarra in 2001.

In 1997 she joined Financial Planning Head Office, as Head of Financial Control. In 2001 she became Director of Accounting and Controller. She was appointed General Manager of Economic and Financial Affairs in 2005. Since October 2008 her responsibilities have also included the Communications Department, and since 2010 Management of the company’s IT system.


Helio Mariscal Álvaro.

Helio Mariscal, Senior Vice President Human Resources and Auditing

Graduate in Mining Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Higher School of Mining Engineers. He complemented his formal education with a Master’s Degree in Business Management Techniques – Spanish Consultants with Caixa Galicia.

In 1984 he joined the Development Office of a subsidiary, CAVISA, as a Director of Operations, taking over as General Manager in 1986. He was then appointed Assistant Director of the Huelva Expansion Project (HEP) in 1993. Subsequently he took charge of Internal Auditing Management and since January 2004 has been Senior Vice President Human Resources and Internal Auditing for Atlantic Copper.


Natalia Pérez Hormaeche.

Natalia Pérez, Director of Legal Affairs

Graduate in Law from the University of Granada; she also holds a Master’s degree in Legal Counselling from the Madrid Business School (1994-1995).

She joined Atlantic Copper in 2004 as Legal Affairs Coordinator and Deputy Secretary to the Board of Directors. In 2007 she was appointed Director of Legal Affairs and Secretary of the Board of Directors.

 


Carlos Rich

Charles ("Carlos") Rich, Strategy Officer and Director International Division

Carlos gained an honours degree in Mine Engineering from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London in 1981. He is a Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and is a Sherpa member to the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials. In 2014, he successfully completed the Navarra University Business School Senior Management Program (PADE).

After spending 11 years working in the Minas de Riotinto mine management division, in 1996 Carlos was seconded to the Atlantic Copper Smelter & Refinery (Huelva, Spain) where he successfully led different key continuous improvement projects. In 2005 he was promoted to Director International Division undertaking at the same time the corporate role of Director Concentrate Marketing and Sales in which he forms an integral part in the Freeport McMoRan front office commercial team responsible for marketing the copper concentrates produced at all of Freeport’s copper mines worldwide.

In 2007 Carlos was also made responsible for the Atlantic Copper Strategy Office. In this role he assists Atlantic Copper’s Chairman with creating, communicating, executing, monitoring and sustaining strategic initiatives within Atlantic Copper aimed at reducing costs and obtaining across the board leadership in operational excellence and innovation.

Carlos is a member of the Atlantic Copper Senior Management Committee since 2014, reporting directly to the Chairman on his responsibilities for strategy, international affairs and European innovation initiatives.
