Metals for sustainability

At Atlantic Copper, we are addressing the major challenges of the energy transition, decarbonization of the economy, sustainable mobility and digitalization, by making essential metals available to society to achieve a green future that ensures the planet’s preservation. In this scenario, metals such as copper, gold, silver, platinum, palladium or tin have shown to be essential for each of the technologies associated with these challenges.

About us

Our History

We have been witnesses to the social and economic development of Huelva and Andalusia for more than 50 years. In 1993, we joined US multinational Freeport-McMoRan, one of the world’s largest copper producers and a global strategic player in the supply of metals.

Our Metallurgical Complex

We process an average of 1.1 million tons of copper ore concentrate annually, generating about 285,000 tons of cathodes and other products, including sulfuric acid or anodic sludge with a high content of precious metals such as gold, silver, palladium or platinum.

CirCular Project

For more than two decades, we have been developing circular economy projects in our processes to make them more efficient and sustainable. Examples include the way we recover heat to convert it into electricity, and the reuse of process water.

In 2025 we will launch the CirCular project, which represents the maximum expression of this philosophy and is one of the most important industrial initiatives in the sector worldwide. With CirCular, we will recover non-ferrous metals such as copper, gold, silver, platinum, palladium or tin from WEEE, previously processed by authorized agents, to give these metals a new life in the industrial chain and address the major challenges of the energy transition, electrification and sustainable mobility.

Our Foundation

Our responsibility to the environment drives us to be a dynamic economic, social and cultural force in Huelva. In 2009, we launched the Atlantic Copper Foundation and since then we have allocated more than 6 million euros to activities in different areas (educational, environmental, social and cultural) to generate a positive social impact in Huelva.
