Atlantic Copper is a Spanish company whose sole shareholder is the US global conglomerate Freeport-McMoRan, one of the leading natural resource companies in the United States. Freeport-McMoRan is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: FCX). It is the world’s second-biggest producer of copper and number-one producer of molybdenum and a significant producer of gold.

Our company is registered in Huelva, where we have our metallurgical complex. The plant is located on the banks of the Odiel River, right across from the Marismas del Odiel, a marsh listed by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve and home to many kinds of birds and other wildlife. The marsh’s bird population is gradually increasing in numbers and types of species, which is a good sign of how industry and nature can live together.
Our human capital is the key factor that made it possible for our smelter to reach a world leading position in terms of safety, operational skills, environmental protection and energy efficiency.
Our main business is to produce high-grade refined copper from ore mined in various parts of the world. The extraordinary qualities of copper make it indispensable for the sustainable development of society. We process more than a million tons of ore at our Huelva plant, to produce close to 300,000 metric tons of refined copper annually. We also produce other industrial products, such as sulfuric acid, precious metals and iron silicate. Atlantic Copper, directly and indirectly employs over 1,000 people.
