Huelva, 9 March 2015. This morning the Atlantic Copper Foundation bestowed its university scholarships on 35 students of the University of Huelva. The event, which took place in the auditorium at the University of Huelva School of Education, was attended by the university???s chancellor, the scholarship recipients, their families and others. Atlantic Copper Foundation President Jesús Contreras, the foundation???s general manager, Antonio de la Vega, and its project manager, Esperanza Morillo, were present to represent the Foundation.
This initiative, now in its sixth year with a new record number of beneficiaries, has two primary objectives. One is to facilitate access to higher education for young adults from disadvantaged socioeconomic environments, and the other is to reward scholastic excellence, as applicants must have a good academic performance record.
At the ceremony for the 2014-2015 scholarships, the Atlantic Copper Foundation awarded over 35,000 euros in financial aid grouped into four types to respond to the personal needs of each beneficiary. The first three types cover registration and additional supplementary expenses that depend on each case, such as expenses of materials, travel or housing.
Of the 35 students who were distinguished this year, twelve have received Atlantic Copper Foundation scholarships before. This continuity ensures that scholarship recipients have the resources they need to stick with their studies until they have earned their degree. Since the programme began, more than 90 scholarships have been granted to support university students, a total of close to 115,000 euros in aid.
The scholarship recipients are seeking a variety of degrees, including bachelor???s degrees in early childhood education, primary education, social education, computer engineering, mechanical engineering and chemistry, a double degree in environmental science and geology and various master???s degrees.
