Atlantic Copper has appointed María Elena Sanz Ibarra as the new Chief People, Organization & Culture Officer at a pivotal moment for the company, marked by the implementation of the CirCular Project, an acceleration in transformation, and digitalization, the key pillars of the company’s growth and future competitiveness.

“María Elena’s background, along with her experience in transformation processes and complex industrial settings, will prove highly valuable in helping further strengthen our organization during this crucial period for Atlantic Copper, when growth, transformation and digitalization are strategic priorities,” noted Macarena Gutiérrez, CEO of Atlantic Copper.

With a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Psychology from the Complutense University of Madrid, Sanz Ibarra’s credentials also include a diploma in Executive Management from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Program for Management Development (PMD) at IESE Business School and a certificate in Human Change Management from Cranfield University (UK).

With over 20 years of international experience, she has developed a solid background in human resources, corporate reputation and sustainability at leading multinationals in sectors such as logistics, information technology, energy, water, mining and metals.

She has held high-level executive positions, navigating transformation and innovation processes at organizations including Bergé, ContourGlobal, AES Gener, Compañía Minera del Pacífico and Agbar, as well as in the Chilean Government’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications.

Throughout her career, she has led large-scale organizational transformations, merging people strategies with business goals, operational efficiency and the creation of high-performance cultures, combining a strategic vision with a profoundly human approach to leadership.

Her contribution to the development of female leadership is particularly notable in initiatives such as Promociona Mujer Chile, in collaboration with the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) and the Chilean Confederation for Production and Commerce (CPC), aimed at increasing the presence of women in executive roles.

In 2015, she was recognized as one of the “Top 100 Women Leaders” in Chile by El Mercurio newspaper and the organization Mujeres Empresarias, solidifying her status as a role model in leadership, people management, and organizational transformation.
